Southwest Airlines plans to launch nonstop Saturday flights between Harlingen and Las Vegas on June 5, 2027, adding a seasonal travel option for Rio Grande Valley residents.
The flights will operate weekly from June through August, with the possibility of additional dates, according to Valley International Airport. Airport officials announced the route Oct. 2, and tickets are already available through Southwest Airlines.
Valley International Airport Commercial Director Nicolas Mirman also discussed the new service on KURV 710, describing the addition as part of a major Southwest schedule expansion at the Harlingen airport.
The route marks several firsts for Southwest at Valley International Airport. It will be the airline's first nonstop service from Harlingen to Las Vegas, its first nonstop route from Harlingen to a destination outside Texas and its first newly announced route at the airport since 1985, according to the airport's announcement.
Published flight schedules show one weekly departure in each direction on Saturdays, beginning June 5.
The Harlingen-to-Las Vegas flight is listed as Southwest flight WN1722, departing Valley International Airport at 6:25 p.m. The return flight, WN1882, is scheduled to leave Las Vegas at 12:55 p.m. Departure times are local to each airport and remain subject to schedule changes.
The new flight is part of a broader expansion of Southwest's Harlingen operations.
The airline is also increasing nonstop service between Harlingen and Austin, with up to four daily departures on peak travel days. Existing Southwest service connects Harlingen with Houston and Dallas.
The Las Vegas addition gives travelers a nonstop option for trips to Nevada during the summer season rather than requiring a connection through another airport.
Travelers can check dates, fares and availability on Southwest's booking website. The airline may adjust schedules before service begins in June 2027.
